‘Quilting’ making quilts & knee rugs

The Tewantin neighbourhood group of the Australian Sewing Guild Inc meet on Saturday 28th May 2011 commencing at 9.00 am until 3.00 pm at the Masonic Hall, cnr of Moorindil and Toolar Streets, Tewantin.

This month the group will be “QUILTING” making quilts and/or knee rugs for the Flood Victims. Please ring Barbara (07) 5474 2454 if you wish to visit or become a member, quilters especially welcomed at this meeting to assist the non-quilters.
Bring along your sewing machine, lunch, morning tea is supplied and any spare quilting material you may have.

The Tewantin Group meets on the last Saturday every month and has a regular program with a different topic each month.
Members will assist anyone who wishes to learn to sew or beginners to improve their skills. Plus an ongoing project of sewing items for charities and clothes for premature babies.

The Australian Sewing Guild was formed with the aim of ensuring that the art of sewing does not die. Its focus is mainly sewing by machine.
It’s stated objectives are: To share and further the growth of the art of sewing. To bring sewers together and encourage the establishment of sewing groups, To encourage and maintain a high standard of craftsmanship.

There is a fee to join the Australian National Sewing Guild, it is a not for profit national organization.
The groups are made up of enthusiastic people, with varying skills from the novice to the specialist; neighbourhood groups meet regularly throughout the country.
The Tewantin Group have a small library where members can borrow patterns, books etc.

Members of the Guild can attend any neighbourhood group, some very keen members even make a point of attending neighbourhood group meetings when they are in the vicinity and on holidays!
