Attention aspiring local filmmakers, actors, and lovers-of-fun keen for a weekend like no other. It's time to put some important dates in your diary if you are keen to get involved in REELmad 2008 - Noosa's iconic 24 hour film-making festival.
REELmad festival founder and director Belinda Griffin explains that REELmad entrants have 24 hours to write shoot and edit a 3 - 7 minute film.
"So that our judges know the films have been made in 24 hours, teams are given an official REELmad TOP SECRET KIT listing an assortment of ingredients to weave into their films. It's then up to the filmmaker to select five things from the kit and include these in their film, however fleetingly!" she says.
Belinda says REELmad is open to anyone REELmad enough to have a go - family teams, work teams, teams of friends, school buddies through to emerging filmmakers.
"It's not restricted by age or experience, and presents a rare opportunity for local people to shine and express themselves as directors, performers, and musicians and see themselves and their community on the big screen," she says "There are also some great prizes up for grabs".
The official launch and sign-up for all filmmakers will be Friday 11 July (when the kits are handed out), with REELmad return entries due in 24 hours later - on Saturday 12 July.
The 24 hour theme also applies to judging, with the panel of judges (industry professionals) given only 24 hours to view, shortlist and present the winning entries at a gala event at The J at Noosa Junction on the night of Sunday 13 July.
Belinda says those keen to take part in REELmad should also put one other important date in their diary.
"This year we will be conducting a full-day workshop on Saturday 5 July - the week prior to REELmad. The workshop will include information sessions and panel discussions run by industry professionals, and will give REELmad entrants practical tips and tricks for getting their ideas to film," she says.
"As an incentive we are offering workshops free of charge to REELmad entrants who register on the day of the workshops," she says.
And apart from being a fun and fabulous weekend for all involved, REELmad also raises funds and awareness for the prevention of youth suicide, dedicating fundraising efforts to assist those in the community working towards youth suicide prevention and supporting those left behind.
Now an iconic Noosa event and part of the Noosa Long Weekend, REELmad has support from Queensland Events.
Belinda and the REELmad now have a busy few months ahead in pulling all the strings together for REELmad 2008. Stay tuned for more information about prize categories and to learn more about the panel of judges for REELmad 2008.
