Relay for Life is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money and awareness of cancer research within the community.
Who Takes Part
Everyone is welcome. This is an event for people of all ages and levels of fitness. It's an event open to teams from workplaces to community groups, neighbourhoods and families.
How to Become Involved
Use our Online Registration Form to receive your information kit about a Relay for Life event near you or to register your team. The official brochure and poster is available for your information (in PDF format).
Form a team of 10 - 15 from your family, friends, co-workers, church, school, gym, sporting club, or community group, to walk, run or roll (wheel chairs) in relay fashion for 18 hours around the track of a local school, showground, university or park. All you need is a sense of purpose and fun! Give your team a name and develop a theme. Be creative.
Raise your entry fee of $10 per member, this is your commitment to participate in the event. Once you have paid this commitment fee you will be issued with a Team Kit containing important items such as receipt books, deposit slips, posters, t-shirts etc. Extra kits can be ordered for new members as they join the team.
Each team member in Relay for Life then needs to raise $100 or more for their team effort. Most teams choose to fundraise as a team, and then aim for a grand total rather than individual amounts.
Begin by making your own contribution then list the people who can help you meet your goal; friends, neighbours, co-workers etc. There are trophies & prizes for the highest individual and team money raisers. More ideas for how to raise funds will be included in your team kit.
All funds raised will need to be deposited into the Queensland Cancer Fund bank account prior to the Relay.
Come to the venue nearest you and get ready for 18 hours of fun & entertainment. Participants take part in special ceremonies, including a Survivor's Walk and a Candlelight Ceremony . Team members walk or run relay-style around the track for 30 - 60 minute intervals for the entire event. The centre of the oval becomes a "tent city"... as teams camp-out, waiting for their turn to walk. Bring your tents, food* and sleeping bags so you won't miss the action. And remember, in the interest of health, Relay for Life is a smoke-free event.
* food & snacks will be available for purchase at the event
As you collect all funds before the event, all you need to do when it's over is tell your friends what a great time you had and start forming your team for next year.
Relay for Life reminds us that progress has been made in the fight against cancer, and that everyone who participates is making a difference!
