'Retrospective' exhibition opens at the Butter Factory

Anne-Laure Demene's Retrospective sculpture and painting exhibition opens at the Butter Factory Arts Centre at noon on Saturday 30 May.

French-born Anne-Laure immigrated to Australia in 1984 and recently moved to Cooroy after living in the Brisbane area for 25 years.

"I am very proud to have my first Sunshine Coast exhibition at the Butter Factory in my new home town," Anne-Laure said.

"Retrospective is a show of my work up to today as I am sure my new home will bring me new inspiration."

Anne-Laure has been sculpting for almost ten years, having discovered the arts while studying interior design in Brisbane. She specialises in busts and classical human form but also creates more playful pieces and experiments with different media to nurture her creativity and imagination.

"My favourite material is bronze because of its mystery, strength and immortality," she said.

"But it takes lots of years to perfect techniques and train the eye."

Community Policy and Programs Portfolio holder, Councillor Jenny McKay, welcomes Anne-Laure to the region.

"It's wonderful to see the Sunshine Coast attracting such talented artists who are able to work, live and exhibit in the region," Cr McKay said.

Anne-Laure has built a solid client base through commissions, private sales and regular exhibitions in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Pacific region.

She is a member of the Queensland Sculptors Society and is looking forward to connecting with the Sunshine Coast arts community.

The exhibition runs from 30 May to 25 June and the gallery is open 10am-4pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Visitors will have the opportunity to gain an insight into Anne-Laure's artistic process as she will be at the Butter Factory on Wednesdays and Saturdays working on clay models in preparation for casting.
