Courtesy to combat road rage in Buderim

Road safety and traffic congestion -- and rising incidents of road rage -- are major concerns to Buderim residents, a recent community survey found.

In response to this, Buderim Safe, with the support of the Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Police Service, is launching a new road safety campaign entitled "Road Courtesy is Catching in Buderim".

The campaign will urge all road users to be safe and to exercise tolerance and patience when they are using the often winding and steep roads of Buderim.

It will target motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists with messages that encourage all road users to show consideration for each other.

A concerned community member presented the "courtesy" idea to the Buderim Safe Committee in 2008. Less than 18 months later, the Buderim Safe Committee has developed a positive education-based campaign from this concept.

Sunshine Coast Councillor Ted Hungerford, who is a member of the Buderim Safe Committee, will be a keynote speaker at the campaign launch on Wednesday 9 September with an emphasis on saving lives.

"The campaign is the first of its kind for the Sunshine Coast and aims to promote the importance of using our roads considerately and also aims to foster an understanding in the community that every road user carries the responsibility of keeping lives safe on the road," Cr Hungerford said.
