Science on Saturday starts on the Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast children are invited to take part in a fun hands-on scientific program starting later this month, Minister for State Development and Innovation Tony McGrady said today.
"Children aged between seven and 14 years old are invited to join the Science on Saturday Program from July 23 to August 27," he said.
"The State Government program has been designed to stimulate children's imagination and curiosity and help them to discover that science is fun and can lead to a range of interesting careers.
"Each Saturday, the participants will spend 90 minutes doing fun scientific experiments involving forensic science, flight, electronics, genetics, rocks and minerals and sun protection."
Mr McGrady said the Sunshine Coast was part of the third Science on Saturday series for 2005.
"To date, we have had more than 5,500 children take part in the program which is great news for the future of Queensland's science sector," he said.
"The State Government wants to encourage as many children as possible to think about a career in science because this is where the Smart State is headed in terms of jobs for the future."
Mr McGrady said since 1998 the Beattie Government had invested more than $2.4 billion in Queensland innovation, science and research.
"Science on Saturday is part of the State Government's commitment to giving Queenslanders the skills they need to continue driving the Smart State forward," he said.
