SeniorNet Maroochy Inc.
Have you been intrigued by what your grandchildren can do on their computers and view that technology with fear? If you've always been curious, join SeniorNet and we will answer your questions and get you using a computer with confidence.
SeniorNet was first created by Dr Hilda de Arts in 1995 and she devoted a great deal of her energy to presenting its vision and objectives for national expansion. SeniorNet Maroochy was incorporated in July 2003 as an initiative of Maroochy Libraries and has had a slow but solid beginning. Formal training sessions run by Maroochydore Library staff are hugely popular. Sessions run regularly throughout the year and training facilities are of the highest quality. Training fees at the Maroochydore Library are only $6 per session to SeniorNet financial members but are otherwise $12 per session.
As well as formal training, the association is about peer mentoring. Our motto is "Seniors helping Seniors to communicate with the world" so if you have a subject in which you specialise, we need your help! For example, virus protection, sending emails and attachments, left and right mouse function, creation of cards, digital photo manipulation, and even that the printer needs to be switched on to enable it to work.
Our membership fee is $30 per year (single), and $40 per year (couple), and this is needed to cover our insurance, but all other costs are kept to a minimum.
Because computers and the Internet provide an efficient, cost-effective medium for communication and sharing information, they are the ideal for SeniorNet members. The association's major role is to help seniors use computers, meet people with similar interests and make friends. We have social occasions where we meet and have lots of fun, so it's certainly not all work and no play.
