THE TEWANTIN NEIGHBOUR GROUP of the Australian Sewing Guild -- known as The Gilded *Lilies* Sewing Circle. *(Ladies industriously learning interesting exciting sewing).

The months meeting is to be held on Saturday 30th May 2009 at the Masonic Hall Moorindil St, Tewantin, commencing at 9am until 3 pm. The group meet on the last Saturday every month.

Our Guest for May is Alison Wheeler (known as the Sewing Lady) from Brisbane, doing her very popular "Tips and Tricks Presentation". Alison has had years of experience in all forms of sewing, and in Brisbane she is known as the Sewing Lady. The day will be a mix of demonstration and hands-on samples with notes provided. Everyone will need to bring their machines and sewing supplies plus about half a metre of calico or homespun for samples. Some of the tips include, clean finish mitres, bulk free facings, armhole facings, and all in one piping and facing with lots more as well. All of these relate both to dressmaking and quilting, so participants will learn lots of short cuts and tricks for whatever type of machine sewing they do. Also bring a plate of goodies for the shared birthday lunch.

The Tewantin Group has a regular program with a different topic each month and has an ongoing project of sewing items for charities and clothes for premature babies.

The Australian Sewing Guild was formed with the aim of ensuring that the art of sewing does not die. Its focus is mainly sewing by machine. It's stated objectives are:

To share and further the growth of the art of sewing.
To bring sewers together and encourage the establishment of sewing groups,
To encourage and maintain a high standard of craftsmanship.

It is a national not for profit organisation, similar to one that has been operating for some time in America. Made up of enthusiastic people, with varying skills from the novice to the specialist, neighbourhood groups meet regularly throughout the country.

Members of the Guild can attend any neighbourhood group, some very keen members even make a point of attending neighbourhood group meetings when they are in the vicinity and on holidays! A list of all the neighbourhood groups in Australia and their meeting date and time is published in the national newsletter.

The photographs are of our last month meeting with the guest teacher Maureen Thompson -- author of "Why not be your own designer.
