Over 50 Sunshine Coast business identities have come together to create the Shadforths Century Charity Ride, a 110km ride from Tanawah to Noosa Heads on June 16 to raise funds for two local girls who require major ear operations at the California Ear Institute.

Two year old locals Lucy Ridoutt and Frankee-Lee Shaw both suffer from extremely rare ear conditions leaving Lucy’s hearing at 20-30% and Frankee-Lee bilaterally deaf in both ears.

Spokesperson and Managing Partner at Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers Travis Schultz said planning is well underway for this year’s ride which is expected to raise over $50,000 for Lucy and Frankee-Lee.

“Each operation will cost around $34,000 and it is great that all of the money we raise will help fund flights, accommodation, transport and medical expenses.  Last year we undertook a similar event and raised over $50,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland and we are aiming to top that effort this year,” Travis said.

The world’s leading atresia repair surgeon Dr Joseph Roberson is scheduled to perform both operations in September this year and, if successful, will leave Lucy with an 80% chance of normal hearing and Frankee-Lee is expected to have a 90% success rate.

“Each rider must raise a minimum of $750 in order to participate so there is plenty of incentive to get out and raise as much as they can through individual donations and corporate support,” Travis said.

Shadforth Civil Contractors director Ray Shadforth said he was thrilled to be the major sponsor of the event and support such a worthy local cause.

“I think it’s really inspiring what the cyclists are trying to achieve, it’s a long ride and I am sure they will all be thinking how their hard work will benefit each girl when the going gets tough along the ride to Noosa.

“It’s so typical how Sunshine Coast locals get behind worthy causes like this and we are proud to put our name to this event,” Ray said.
