World renowned smoking cessation expert to visit Nambour Hospital to share latest techniques
Associate Professor Renee Bittoun, a global expert and practitioner in smoking cessation, will visit the Nambour Hospital on Tuesday 10 May to deliver a ground-breaking session about the latest in smoking cessation research, evidence and practice.
Bittoun, a respiratory physiologist by training, started one of the world's first Smokers' Clinics in 1979 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. She is Director of the Smokers' Clinics in the SW Sydney Area Health Service and Associate Professor, Head of the Smoking Cessation Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, Brain Mind Institute, University of Sydney. Renee was nominated for Australian of the Year in 2008 and awarded the prestigious Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) President's Award in 2009. She is the current President of The Australian Association of Smoking Cessation Professionals (AASCP) and founder Editor-in-Chief of the new international peer-reviewed Journal of Smoking Cessation.
Renate Millonig Project Manager of the Indigenous Smoking Cessation pilot program at the Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice (SCDGP), a not-for-profit membership organisation representing the professional interests of General Practitioners on the Sunshine and Cooloola Coasts, says the session at Nambour poses an exceptional opportunity for health professionals involved in smoking cessation to come along and learn the newest in cessation techniques (both pharmacotherapies and behavioural).
"We are extremely honoured to be hosting Renee on the Sunshine Coast for the first time, to share not only her latest research but to also draw on her 30+ years of extensive research and ongoing experience in treating the 'hard to treat smoker' in her out-patient clinics. Put simply, she is widely recognised as the world's best, and we believe her knowledge and research will be invaluable for all health professionals on the Sunshine Coast - most particularly, those who are working with our 'No Durri for this Murri' program."
The session will be held in the Nambour Hospital Auditorium, Nambour General Hospital, Nambour from 6pm -- 9pm. A light dinner will be provided from 6pm. Whilst the session is free, bookings are essential and need to be made prior to close of business on Wednesday 4 May 2011. Bookings can be made by contacting SCDGP on (07) 5456 8804 or firstname.lastname@example.org. CPD Points apply where relevant.
