On behalf of NPA Friday Environmental Forum:  Jutta Dyrchs-Jansen, Project Officer

NPA holds its Friday Environmental Forum (FEF) every Friday from 10am -12.15pm at the EC in Wallace Park. Everyone is welcome to pop in for a coffee, learn about our local environment, and listen to guest speakers or NPA project Officers talking about a wide variety of environmental topics.

This Friday, April 18th, Council's Conservation Management Supervisor, Geoff Black, will talk about "Wild Dogs, Foxes and Ferral Animals" whose behaviour is of increasing concern to Council and landowners.  They have also become a problem in periurban areas, and there is predation of foxes on seaturtle nests.

Geoff will then introduce Don Gibson and Mark Dwyer, Regional Managers of Conservation Volunteers Australia, our country's leading practical conservation organisation.

Annually, CVA plants 1 million trees and attracts 10.000 volunteers, many from overseas, who pay their way to travel and undertake volunteer work on conservation projects, while mixing with the locals.

Mark Dwyer is Regional Manager for the new Maleney Office and is looking forward to working closely with the Noosa region and related Sunshine Coast and inland areas.

Over the last 8 years Noosa Council has been involved with CVA's volunteers on a number of projects throughout our shire, eg. Peregian foreshore restoration and Boreen Point weed removal and planting.

One of CVA's major achievements that won them the UN's highest environmental award in 2000, was the restoration of the Townsville "Town Common", a wetland of over 3000 hectares, together with BHP Billiton and the Townsville community.  It is an outstanding example of how CVA creates partnerships to achieve environmental outcomes.

So please come and join us in what should be an inspiring morning!
