Spoken Word Australia presents Stevie Wright "The Godfather of Rock".

Spoken Word Australia is all about the stories...the stories of those people who stick in our memories for all the right -- and wrong - reasons, but who continue to entertain us in a myriad of ways...

...and we're all curious about what famous people have to say, especially when they're dishing the dirt on someone else who's famous too. There's that sense of knowing a secret that gets us all in a lather and we can't wait to tell our mates all about it, even when we know we shouldn't...!

Spoken Word Australia gives you that chance.

Stevie Wright can arguably be regarded as Australia's "Godfather of Rock".

Starting in the 60's as front-man with The Easybeats, he was the nation's first truly international rock star in a band that spawned a long list of hits (some of which he co-wrote with Easybeats band-mates Harry Vanda & George Young) including "She's So Fine" and "Sorry". There's a long list of Easybeats hits which he sang on including the seminal "Friday On My Mind", "Wedding Ring" and I'll Make You Happy".

In 1972, Stevie joined the cast of the touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar and won enormous critical & public acclaim in his role as Simon Zealotes.

At around that time he embarked on his solo career with The Stevie Wright Band and in 1974 released the classic anthem "Evie -- parts 1,2 & 3" -- with "Evie -- Part 2" the only 11 minute rock song ever to make the top 10 on any music chart in the world. Hit albums "Hard Road" and "Black-Eyed Bruiser" followed.

Fame sat uneasily with Stevie though, and as he sought solace from the public madness that accompanied it, his life spiralled down into a haze of drugs & alcohol abuse which he repeatedly fought to free himself from. It's only recently that he's finally succeeded.

This is his story, in his own words for the first time on stage. Let Stevie take you through his world of rock 'n' roll as he sets the record straight on one man's journey to hell & back.
