The worlds of Jazz and Folk musical are generally considered to be light years apart. On April the 5th however, Stringmansassy will perfectly utilize the two contradicting styles to create a flawless picture in which the two opposites will compliment each other in perfect harmony.
Guitarist Aaron Hopper and vocalist Kacey Patrick both adore the sound of solo instruments and small ensembles. They believe bigger bands become less intimate so decided to keep it really stripped back and their musical congeniality proves them right, hence creating incredible musical energy between voice and guitar. Hopper explains: "Kacey is a very dynamic singer, and in order not to be swamped by her dynamism I need to come up with something for the guitar that will serve as a foil for what she is doing. We worked on that and put basslines and percussive elements under Kacey's voice resulting in a much bigger and richer sound from just the two instruments." Stringmansassy's amalgamation of jazz and folk comes with a splash of world music, intensified by their successive appearances at the two World Expos in Germany (2000) and Japan (2005). "We had just about every country in the world there with music on every night. So we walked from one pavillion to the next and soaked up music from around the world."
"The world of stringmansassy is one in which George Harrison's phrase "while my guitar gently weeps' makes perfect sense….for Hopper is a master guitarist both in interpretation and composition." Andrew MacLean:
"Patrick possesses a voice of unparalleled clarity, so smooth and precise it's like listening to a melting ice sculpture." Matt Connors : Time Off Magazine
After having taken some time off for Kacey Patrick to give birth and Aaron Hopper to relocate to rural NSW, the duo is now back together for an extensive tour of the east coast of Australia before going overseas again towards later this year.
Passion will surely flow like an electric current through their performance when Stringmansassy play the J in Noosa Heads on April the 5th. Tickets for only $20 are available by phone 5455 4455, 7pm for an 8pm start for this licensed event.
