The Sunshine Coast sports community is being encouraged to take
advantage of the Bligh Government's free Succession Planning workshop
being held on Thursday, 11 November 2010.
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the workshop would be of great benefit to local sport and recreation clubs, administrators, instructors, coaches and volunteers.
"The Succession Planning workshop will provide sport and recreation club committees with succession planning tips and information relating to a range of operational and administrative topics," Mr Reeves said.
"This is a great opportunity for the participants to increase and share their knowledge and contribute to the development of sport and recreation in the region.
"The Succession Planning workshop will feature presentations and promote sharing of ideas."
Topics to be covered include:
* Action planning
* SWOT analysis
* Club health checks
* Position descriptions that work.
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the workshop will help the Bligh Government work towards its Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland goal of boosting the number of Queenslanders involved in their communities as volunteers by 50 per cent by 2020.
"Volunteers are the backbone of the sport and recreation industry - on sporting fields and ovals, parks and beaches, volunteers give their valuable time to ensure Queenslanders are provided with quality opportunities to get active," Mr Reeves said.
"The Bligh Government is pleased to help communities achieve this target by organising workshops that provide people with the skills and confidence needed to become volunteers.
"We've made the tough economic decisions to ensure we can continue to support local sport and recreation.
"Because of the strong leadership of the Bligh Government we are able to invest more in sport and recreation than any other state in the country."
