Get fresh at the Christmas growers market
The Suncoast growers market, formerly located at the Big Pineapple, is settling into its new home just 1km down the road, and is celebrating with a pre-Christmas twilight market on 22 December from 4pm - 8pm.
Market coordinator Helen Langlois said that the markets are the perfect place to find that something special for the Christmas table.
"The evening market on 22 December is the perfect time to pick up all your fresh produce and speciality products from amazing cheeses to stunning freshly picked flowers.
"The new location at the Suncoast Christian College in Woombye is a fanatastic with plenty of parking and room to grow."
There are a great range of stalls, with local growers and producers who are serving up fresh, local produce at great prices.
Jody and Di are local banana growers since the 1970's and have recently branched out into the colourful fragrant world of flowers.
"At Farm Fresh flowers we source all of our blooms direct from about six growers each week, pick only the best quality growers and sell our flowers at wholesale prices to maintain a good turnover of fresh blooms," Ms West said.
"Lately we have begun planting some varieties of native and tropical blooms and will be expanding our range next season when they come into production.
"The farmers markets seem to be one of the few options left for small farmers to sell their product locally and it means that we can offer great products at great wholesale prices.
"Our vibrant Heliconias, with their red and yellow blooms, would make a stunning centerpiece to any Christmas table, and at just $10 you can't go wrong."
The markets are on every Saturday from 6.30am until 12pm at SunCoast Christian Church car park on the Palmwoods overpass, just off the Nambour Connection Road - simply follow the signs on market day.
Helen Langlois said that while some people weren't used to the new site yet, the markets on track to stay a real local success story.
"We've got the same great line up of stalls, including unbelievably fresh produce that just lasts and lasts once you get it home," Ms Langlois said.
"We've also got some of the Coast's best specialty producers, such as Maleny cheese, Benedale farm meats, Farm Fresh Flowers and many more waiting in the wings.
"The markets really do fill a gap for people who want an affordable alternative to the big supermarkets.
"You're getting freshly picked local fruit and veg, superb speciality producers, fresh bread baked on site and at such great prices it's a win win for sellers and buyers alike.
