Suncoast Repertory Theatre Inc
"Bullshot Crummond" is a rollicking comedy and is a sublime send up of the 1920/30s action adventure books and movies of that 'terribly' British detective - "Bulldog Drummond". The heroes are 'frightfully' good and the villains are 'dreadfully' evil. The plot is beyond belief and the whole thing is quite 'Pythonesque' in its execution.
Count Otto Von Bruno (the second most dangerous man in Europe) has returned to England accompanied by his "she-devil" and so-called wife, Lenya. They kidnap the brilliant, if somewhat absent minded and erratic, Professor Fenton. The professor's work could be used, in the wrong hands, to create awesome weapons of mass destruction, and even help some dastardly fiend take over the western world!
The Professor's young and 'unmarried' daughter, Rosemary, is distraught and seeks the help of the one man in England that can help - Captain Hugh "Bullshot" Crummond! What can be said of this man? War hero! Winner of the London to Brighton car race three years in a row! The first man to climb the western face of Kilamanjaro! The hero of the Amsterdam Olympics! Super sleuth! Having said that I'll wager a ha'penny bun to a pound of dried bananas that Bullshot will solve the case, rescue the professor, win the hand of the lady and be home in time for a hot bath and the latest issue of the Times.
Action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and romance hurtle hand in hand with aeroplanes, automobiles and incredible contraptions in a plot that is more complicated than our tax system.
The play was an instant success when it opened in London's West End and New York's Broadway. By the early eighties it had been turned into a major film and by the mid-eighties it had become one of the most successful plays of all time. The international awards the play has won are only matched by the deeds and awards of Crummond himself.
Suncoast Repertory Theatre has managed to secure the talents of Mr. Ron House to direct. Not only did Mr. House write this play, he also directed the original London and New York productions, as well as starring in the film. Mr. House will be arriving from California in early April. We regard this as a major coup for coastal theatre. Having the chance to work with an internationally renowned director may be a once in a lifetime experience for the cast, crew and audience.
Starring in this production will be Brett Klease, fresh from critic- and audience-acclaimed performances in "Popcorn" for Jally Productions and "Aftershocks" for Noosa Arts Theatre; Ruby Drewery, who also appeared in "Popcorn" and "Don's Party"; and Peter Moore, Brisbane-based professional actor, who also starred in "Don's Party" last year.
Performances at the Noosa Arts Theatre, Weyba Rd, Noosaville on December 9, 10, 16, 17 @ 7.30pm. Tickets cost $25 adults and $20 concessions. Credit card bookings available on 5449 9343 Sunday to Friday 10am to 4pm or counter sales at the theatre on Saturday mornings from 9am to midday from late April.
