Background Profiles on the Groups and Performers
The Companie of Knights Bachelor
The companie of the Knights Bachelor is one of Australias oldest re-enactment groups, portraying the culture, lifestyle and and combat of knightly classes of the late 12th century. The Companie recreates the the era of the third crusade, the time of Richard the Lionheart and Saladin, the excitement of an authentic medieval tournament, using real weapons and colourful costuming. Imagine a period when knighthood was young and strong; an age where courtly love blossomedand when armoured knights fought for honour and the favour of the Lady. It is a time of pageantry and colour where truth and honour were more than just words.
Knights, merchants and traders are a sunshine coast based reenactment society who portray folk of the 11th & 12th century. Their emphasis is on the era following the Norman Conquest and they seek to recreate combat and customs paticular to those times. KMATIO will demonstrate fighting, games, crafts and music.
Orc Crystal
Will attend the Fayre as roving minstrels with fantasy and elf like qualities you will see them throughout the Castle, where they will captivate audiences with their unusual costumes and specialised musical style.
Swiss Mercenaries
This group seeks to bring to life the disciplines and costumes of 15th century brigade soldiers. The Swiss mercenaries were some of the most elite forces of the late fifteenth century and they helped to disintegrate the order of chivalry as well as the feudal standard. They were preceded by the English longbowmen, and succeeded by the Landknechts, who adopted Swiss tactics to produce a force that dominated Europe for years. Since 1859, only one mercenary unit has been permitted under the Swiss constitution, certainly the most famous of all: the Vatican's Swiss Guard, which has been protecting the Pope for the last five centuries.
Nobles' Quest
Nobles' Quest is a three generational 15th century re-enactment group based in Hervey Bay, Queensland. Specialising in traditional 15th century arts and crafts, the members of Nobles' Quest create as faithfully as possible, authentic handmade clothing and accessories and demonstrate and display a selection of crafts of the era, spinning and weaving, needlework, leatherwork, embroidery, millinery, cooking etc
Cliff Turpin Archery
Cliff Turpin is a reenactor of the highest callibre. The passion he brings to his sport of archery and the detail with which he persues history have seen Cliff at the cutting edge of medieval reenactors for more than 12 years. Cliff is more than willing to share his knowledge and display his skill - renowned as one of the foremost traditional long bow makers in Australia. See Cliffs display at the back of the Castle and have a go yourself.
