May 6, 2005 Local band performs for refuge fundraiser
The Sunshine Coast Concert Band will present a special concert for the Coast's refuge for women and children in crisis, Sonshine Sanctuary, at 2pm on Sunday, May 22 at the Kawana Community Hall.
The band, led by musical director, Ken Chadwick, will be accompanied by Bev Gourlay, Fiona Simpson and Allan Winter. The repertoire will include a great variety of classics including music from the Seekers, Annie Get your Gun, Diamond's are a girl's best friend, As time goes by and I don't know how to love him.
The programme also features a flute trio, trombone trio and Alto Sax solo as well as Allan Winter's rendition of the Michael Buble hit Sway.
All funds raised at the concert will go to the refuge. The 45 band members all volunteer their time for rehearsals and performances and have been entertaining Sunshine Coast audiences and fundraising, since 1996.
"If we can put something back into the community through our love for music, everyone wins," Ken Chadwick said.
"We have a very dedicated team of musicians who come from all walks of life including teachers, nurses, accountants and professional musicians. Their dedication is inspirational and it has been wonderful to see the band grow and improve over the years."
The concert will be held at the Kawana Community Hall in Buddina and tickets ($10 including afternoon tea) will be available at the door. For more information please call 5450 6680.
