Finalists announced for 2011 Sunshine Coast Excellence in Business Awards

Business and individual finalists have been selected from a record field of over 400 nominations across 16 categories for the 17th Sunshine Coast Excellence in Business Awards.  The awards have now evolved to become one of the largest regional business award events staged in Queensland.

As organisers of the awards, the Maroochy Chamber of Commerce’s President, Myles MacNamara said that due to the high number and standard of nominees, it had been difficult to narrow the field down.

“Even after 17 years of running the awards we are amazed at the diversity of businesses operating in the region and the professionalism of the people running them.

“This year we’ve seen a definite trend towards creative and knowledge based industries entering the awards and received a lot of tourism entries.

“I’m  delighted to say that given it was the first year that we offered the option of paperless entries, we received over 50% of award submissions online so our awards are that little bit greener.”

All finalists will now undergo a rigorous, three-tier judging process that includes an onsite interview, mystery shop and reference checks.  From there they will have to keep their fingers crossed to learn if they take out their category when winners are announced at the SCEIBA Gala Awards Presentation Dinner on Saturday 19 November, 2011.

Tickets to the Gala will go on sale this week at a cost of $100 each which includes entry to a pre-award cocktail party, a gourmet feast, beverages, entertainment and the awards ceremony.  The event will be staged at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Innovation Centre.

As a major sponsor of the awards, Sunshine Coast Council’s Chair of Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, Councillor Lew Brennan wished all short-listed candidates “the best of luck” and encouraged finalists to be bold and confident during the next stage of judging.

“To be selected as a finalist is a great honour - it means that you’ve earned your right to be there.

“The next challenge is to realise that you’re now up against some equally professional businesses and individuals so it is not the time to be modest or shy.

“Celebrate your business achievements with the judges, demonstrate your commitment to business excellence and make sure to convey the value that your product or service adds to our region.”
