The Sunshine Coast Film Industry Network is one year old!
The Sunshine Coast Film industry Network provides an opportunity for Sunshine Coast film makers, technicians and actors to network. Ultimately FIN aims to increase the presence of the film industry on the Sunshine Coast.
FIN celebrates its first birthday at The J, Noosa Junction on Wednesday 14 May 2008.
FIN Convenor, Kayte New, said that the organisers were delighted with the response of industry professionals and emerging artists on the Sunshine Coast to the Network over the past year.
"The Coast attracts many creative individuals but they often find it difficult to connect. FIN helps bring these people together. This is essential if we are to build a film industry on the Coast.
"And it is working. We have had up to 120 film industry people coming together at our functions and this has led to some projects getting off the ground as filmmakers, actors and crew have made connections with producers, writers and directors who live on the Coast. There are now over 160 industry professional registered with FIN."
"FIN gatherings are a great social occasion with a solid business objective."
Kayte said, "On Wed night we will also be reporting back on the Ignition project, which is an offshoot of the Noosa Creative Alliance set up in response to the Richard Florida Creative Industries initiative. One of the initiatives that has emerged from is the establishment of a new media and film festival. "New media, film, television, gaming and multimedia design are booming markets and have been recognized as industries of the future. Recent government focus on the emerging global demand for cultural content and the accessibility of technology present a superb opportunity for the Sunshine Coast to make a mark on the international new media industry. We certainly have the talent, skills and the energy locally to make this happen. 'Ignition' will showcase our local talent along with national and international guests at a pioneering festival in May 2009.".
"Ignition will act as an industry catalyst, targeting young people through mentoring programs for example. The future of a Coast based film, television and media industry is very much tied up with local training and the development of an industry infrastructure. To that end, Ignition is involved in discussion with schools and industry professionals."
Guest speaker Leah Barclay will update FIN about The Ignition youth and industry mentoring project and the New Media Festival and Kayte New will host a forum about the future of Film and Television and the new media on the Sunshine Coast. A blog was recently launched on the filmindustrynetwork.net website to kick off the discussion.
The next FIN meeting is to be held at 6.00 PM on Wednesday 14 May in the foyer of The J at Noosa Junction. Entry is $15 at the door, a complimentary glass of wine on arrival and the delectable canapés, and a great chance to catch up on local developments and get involved in the industry. If you intend attending you must register on the FIN website at www filmindustrynetwork net
