Students prepare to take over restaurant

The Year 12 Hospitality students at Sunshine Coast Grammar School are preparing to take over the reigns at the popular Mooloolaba restaurant Fish on Parkyn for the night, as they host their end-of-year function on Wednesday, October 27.

Restaurant owners, Jon and Sue Koning will daringly hand over control to the students who have been perfecting their skills in all aspects from waiting tables to working behind the bar and are eager to show off these skills.

This evening allows students to demonstrate their practical performance knowledge and understanding in a real world environment to further enhance their experience.

Year 12 Hospitality student, Emma Swan is eager to step into the restaurant come October 27 but admits that there is still a fair bit of behind the scenes preparation to be done before the big event.

"We are responsible for all aspects of the event from creating the invitations and designing the menus, to taking bookings, organising uniforms as well as arranging the entertainment for the evening not to mention preparing and serving food and beverages on the night," said Emma.

"We cannot thank Jon and Sue Koning enough for enabling us to utilise their top class facilities, which provides such a valuable real life experience to help showcase the skills we've developed over our two-year course," she said.

As the event draws closer, students are excited at the thought of welcoming over 100 guests. Tickets are $55 for adults and $18.50 for children. For bookings, please contact Rebecca Krisanski on 0401 769 942 or by Monday October 18th.
