Thanks to the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Donnet Diving Club Qld Inc, the first ever Sunshine Coast Inter school Springboard diving competition is going to be staged on Tuesday April 24th 2007 at Kawana Aquatic Centre.
Kawana Waters State College and Caloundra Christian College students will battle out the diving boards after taking several lessons with Donnet Diving Club.
The lessons and competition were partially funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation, and have proved to be a very successful concept.
Head coach and club Secretary Barbi Donnet Carver said the school students have all taken to diving like ducks to water!
Being in a school atmosphere, trying new things along with the support of your friends is a fantastic way to learn! There are quite a few divers out there who have loads of potential. The competition will hopefully be the first of many more to come.
School diving is very popular in other States, and only now have we been able to offer it to our local students. We are inviting more local schools to include diving in their school sport program, as it provides not only the intricate specifics of diving itself, but also how to conquer fear, perform in front of others, keep fit, have fun and also boost self esteem.
Kawana Aquatic Centre is only one of three operating diving pools in the state of Queensland. We are very lucky to have the great support of Caloundra City Council backing our sport, as well as the Kawana Aquatic Centre, local schools and of course our fantastic Club members.
The students in the competition will each do 3 different dives from the 1mtr or 3mtr board and then be marked by our judges.
We hope to also have a diving display from some of our top divers on the coast.
The competition will be held at Kawana Aquatic Centre on Tuesday April 24th.
Warm up will start at 9am with the competition beginning around 10am.
