The growing interest in multiculturalism, especially all aspects of Italy and its culture, guaranteed the success of the inaugural Italian Film Festival in November last year.  The Italian School Committee and Maroochy Venues & Events are once again joining forces to present the Italian Film Festival 2004.

The festival will run from Friday 14th May to Sunday 16th May and will feature a selection of Italy's most highly acclaimed and award winning contemporary films that were presented in the Italian Film Festival 2003 in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

This year's selection will include A JOURNEY CALLED LOVE (Un Viaggio Chiamato Amore), a film that recounts the life and scandalous love affair of two famous Italian writers in the early 20th Century, Sibilla Aleramo and Dino Campana.  EUGENIO, I LOVE YOU (Ti voglio bebe Eugenio) is the enlightening and life-affirming tale based on the true story.  Despite his disability, through his unaffected kindness and mysterious sort of wisdom Eugenio inspires a young girl to live again.  EL ALAMEIN - THE LINE OF FIRE (El Alamein - La Linea Di Fuoco), winner of three David Di Donatello Awards for Best Photography, Best Sound Design, Best Editing, is a harrowing depiction of the atrocities of war, focusing on the Italian men who left their families and homes in order to defend their country in World War II.

The festival will also present a rare opportunity to see a brand new restored print of LA DOLCE VITA by the legendary filmmaker, Federico Fellini.  Rarely, if ever, has a picture depicted such decadence, immorality and sophistication, having brought together the nobleman, the prostitute, the homosexual, the intellectual and the nymphomaniac.  La Dolce Vita remains one of Fellini's most immediately recognisable films, and a fascinating insight into Rome's "good life".

The Festival will open on Friday night with a screening of A HEART ELSEWHERE (Il Cuore Altrove) at 7.30pm.  The Heart Elsewhere is a stunning combination of robust comedy and nostalgic romance that carries us back through the decades to the vibrant and provocative Italy of the twenties.

The Official Opening Night function from 6.15pm will include complimentary wine on arrival, authentic Italian finger food and entertainment.  The evening will be a fundraiser for the Italian School Committee and a representative from the Italian Consulate will open the Festival.

Tickets are on sale at Maroochy Venues & Events phone 5475 7777 or in person at the Nambour Civic Centre for the opening night on Friday 14th May.  All tickets are $18.  For all other sessions, tickets can be purchased at the Cinema prior to the screening.  For more information & session times phone 5475 7777.
