Everyone is welcome to come along to Mountain Creek State High School from between 5.30pm - 7pm to watch or chat with conductors, young musicians and their parents. Audition forms will be available on the night or can be obtained beforehand through schools and music shops. Auditions will be held on 7th, 14th and 21st of November.
SCYO has 3 orchestral groups that rehearse on Wednesday evenings during school term: Junior Strings and the Wind Ensemble, where entry level is roughly Grade 2 AMEB standard, and the Concert Orchestra, in which entry level is about Grade 4 AMEB standard upwards, with many of the young musicians playing at Grade 5, 6 & 7 standard. SCYO is currently made up of 125 young musicians ranging in age from 7 years to 20.
SCYO highlights include a Mapleton weekend music camp, regular public performances, specialist tutorials and combined workshop/concerts with Queensland Youth Orchestra.
SCYO is a non-profit (and charity listed) extension of musical education on the coast. We aim to provide the best possible orchestral music experiences for kids right here on the Sunshine Coast.
