Queensland writer and sexual abuse survivor, Roni Askey-Doran will be conducting two community seminars on the Sunshine Coast:

The free seminar Surviving Abuse and Achieving Justice will be presented on 17th and 19th August, at the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre, and the Nambour Community Centre. (see below for details).

Roni, who is a journalist, travel writer, and novelist, began The Naked Book Tour in July and, with the support of her hometown, Townsville, the Regional Arts Development Fund, and Arts Queensland, is presenting her story to fifty locations throughout Queensland.

The Queensland Minister for Child Safety, Mike Reynolds, who has written the foreword for Ms Askey-Doran's first book, will be officiating at the Brisbane launch on Monday 15th August 2005.

The author's two fictional novels, Pendulum and Chasing Unicorns, are stories of paedophilia and based upon her own painful experiences. Both novels will be available for signing at the seminar.

Roni is determined to encourage victims to reveal their stories, and will keep telling her own until victim's cries are heard.

' When I'm standing in front of a group, divulging my painful and personal story of child abuse, I feel as I have nothing on,' said Roni to explain why she named her barnstorming two-year, Australia-wide journey - The Naked Book Tour.
'I was lucky to survive the abuse at the hands of a family member, and my long struggle for justice. We must ensure that victims are willing to speak out. This tough subject must be talked about if we are going to protect our children from predators.'

It is hoped that The Naked Book Tour will increase public awareness about the devastating aftermath child abusers cause victims, survivors, families, and friends. Its proven long lasting effects within the community also include risks of mental health problems and crime.

Behind every news grab of yet another incident of abuse, lie the hidden stories of the victims. Only they know the true agony of surviving abuse.

Victims, parents, carers, teachers, education and health workers, court, legal justice authorities, and the police and interested public are encouraged to attend this important seminar.

Roni Askey-Doran's story should be heard, especially by those in authority, as her unheard cry for justice and the eventual judicial victory would have defeated all but the most determined of victims.
