Response to a call for art work from artists based in Noosa and surrounding areas to display at the Friends Noosa Regional Gallery inaugural ‘Taste of Art’ exhibition has outstripped even the most optimistic expectations.
Friends Vice-President Beatrice Prost says 60 artists will participate at the exhibition to be held at the Noosa Marina (note: not at the Regional Gallery) from 20 Apri to 29 April. (Applications have now closed because of the huge response.)
“Exhibits will include 2D and 3D artworks which will be on show for nine days,” she said.
Local artists, who are now becoming a significant membership of Friends Noosa Regional Gallery, will be exhibiting their work in this 10-day event. Work includes painting, sculptures and other artworks. The event includes “Artists in Conversation”, and art demonstrations.
The exhibition coincides with an exhibition of local entries to the Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Art Awards at the Harbourside Gallery at the Marina.
“This is the big day out for Noosa art lovers, as they can also drop into the Noosa Regional Galley and see architect John Mainwaring’s personal art collection.”
Murtle the Turtle will be one of the highlights of the Friends’ art exhibition. Sculptor Yanni Van Zjil created Murtle from washed-up flotsam from the Noosa National Park and local beaches.
Local restaurateur Jim Berardo will open the exhibition on Friday 20th April, from 5pm to 7pm.
Sponsors Highly Strung, Eumundi will give a talk on conservation techniques and have also donated a great prize. Artists in Conversation include: Glenise Clelland talking about the books she illustrated, with words written by Poet Mocca Wollert; Pauline Adair demonstrating her life drawing / watercolour techniques and Dale Leach talking about her favourite cat images, Kim Schoenberger talking of her art and Beatrice Prost demonstrating her approach to painting and glazing with slips, Pam Walpole talking about her sketchbooks from Morocco and Rob Stonier talking about his sculpturing.
The exhibition continues until Sunday 29th when the $250 People’s Choice Award will be announced at the closing day Soiree at 4pm, when the raffles will also be drawn.
This is another event Friends, Noosa Regional Gallery are promoting this year and all are invited.
