Council opens tenders for businesses to use public land

Sunshine Coast Council has released the tenders for commercial business to apply for permits to operate on community-owned land, including beaches and foreshores.
The move follows a lengthy period of policy development, registration of interest by business people and extensive Coast-wide community consultation with residents and visitors.
Tenders opened officially on 29 May and close on 1 July. Successful tenderers will have a permit until 30 June 2013.
Businesses have been clustered into four types:
*    Surf Based Businesses
*    Snacks and Drinks Businesses
*    Beach Equipment Hire Businesses
*    Miscellaneous Businesses.
Potential operators are able to tender for one or more businesses or locations at set points across the Coast.
Council will run public forums where interested parties can find out further information and have their questions answered:
*    11am, 10 June - Coonowrin Room, Caloundra
*    10am, 15 June - Committee Room, Tewantin
*    3pm, 15 June -  Committee Room, Eddie De Vere building, Nambour
Six long-standing businesses have been exempted from undergoing the tender process - each will have a permit for 10 years which are not transferable by sale of business.
Any revenue raised from the leases will be used to maintain and enhance the localities where these business will operate from.
More information is available on council's website under Tenders.
