Directed by Sue Sewell and Jane Rivers
A feel-good show perfectly timed for Christmas. Suitable for the whole family, this show is a wonderful introduction to the world of Charles Dickens. Watch as old Mr Scrooge has a change of heart after visions of Christmases past, present and future. It’s a play with music and contains 8 new songs, fully costumed and staged.
Noosa Arts is providing some great pre-Christmas entertainment with The Fall and Rise of Mr Scrooge. This play with music is an adaptation of the famous A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Sue Sewell has been writing, directing and acting in plays on the coast for many years and she has adapted this story as well as writing the lyrics and music for this production.
While 'scrooge' has come to be an everyday term for meanness, Scrooge in the story changes into a generous and caring hero who truly reflects the Christmas spirit.
The Fall and Rise of Mr Scrooge is pitched for all ages. It is not a pantomime and it will recreate the Scrooge story in its Victorian setting and have a very genuine Dickensian feel about it.
Sue and co-director, Jane Rivers, have put together a strong cast for this play, with Frank Wilkie playing Scrooge, Tim Murfin playing the Ghost of Christmas Present, Helen Ainsworth playing the Ghost of Christmas Future, Matt Ingold playing Fred, Ashlea Sloman playing Fred's wife, Jannine Ritchie playing Mrs Cratchit, John Balchin playing The Ghost of Jacob Marley, Hazel Mepham playing the school teacher and with Jenni McCaul, Tracey Simpson, Terry Parkin, Trish Hume, Tony Pellatiero and Tania Nash in the ensemble.
Noosa Arts welcomes some new faces on its stage: Mitchell Stanta playing Young Ebenezer; Ruby Silatto, playing young Ebenezer's fiancée; Brianna Campbell playing Fred's sister; Paul Gerhardt playing Bob Cratchit; and Rachael Grieger playing the Ghost of Christmas Past.
There is also some very young talent with Joshua Simpson playing Ebenezer as a child and Paris Hamacek playing Tiny Tim along with Bodhi and Virgo Nash who have performed in pantos at Noosa Arts Theatre. New young faces include Jaime Murfin, Lilly Wratten, Casey Gerhardt and Avril Thompson.
The Fall and Rise of Mr Scrooge is a great way to understand and appreciate the Scrooge story in a very entertaining and novel way.
Noosa Arts is very grateful to Bendigo Bank Tewantin and Noosa Community Radio for their sponsorship of the theatre and to the Sunshine Coast Council for supporting the theatre through the Community Partnership Funding Program.
