The Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of our country’s largest festivals, Wooford Folk Festival and Mullum Music Festival and sends them on the road to small halls in communities all over Australia.
Produced by the Woodford Folk Festival it’s a fabulous opportunity for music lovers from welcoming communities to invite artists from home and abroad into their towns.
The artist line up always has at least one Australian artist and one International touring artist who play music of exceptional quality and heart. They have been chosen for the tour not only because of their beautiful songs and tunes but because they have the ability to really connect with the people they play for.
The Festival of Small Halls is coming to Eumundi on Saturday 13 December from 6.30pm with a great lineup of talented artists including Del Barber, a highly regarded Canadian folk, Americana and alt-country singer songwriter who has just released his fourth album. Del sings from the heart telling stories about his life, tales from the road, offering personal and sincere observations about the world around him. He has emerged as one of the new leading lights in Cananda’s proud tradition of songwriting talent.
Also on the bill are the multitalented Mae Trio from Victoria of Maggie and Elise Rigby and Anita Hillman who started playing together in late 2011. All three members write their own songs, all tastefully arranged to suit the groups diverse instrumental talents and love of three part harmony. The many instruments they use include banjo, cello, marimba, bass, fiddle and ukulele.
The trio have performed at many of the major folk festivals around Australia and in 2013 received the Folk Alliance Youth Award at the National Folk Festival.
Local talent Matt Stillert will also be performing at the Festival of Small Halls in Eumundi. The Adelaide born musician is now calling the Sunshine Coast home. With a raw, dynamic style which alternates from soothing folk melodies to high energy blues/roots music, Matt Stillert is an original artist not to be missed.
