About 'the J'
Noosa Council is building this Centre for all members of the Noosa community. The Centre will provide a long sought after venue for events, programs and activities designed to reflect a wide range of cultural, artistic, recreational, and educative interests.
Funding for the project has been provided through a State Government grant of $1.587M, a Federal Government grant of $1.2M, with the balance of funds contributed by Noosa Council.
Due for completion by late September /early November 2006, the J will house a 320 seat auditorium with retractable seating, lounge and recreational areas, meeting and workshop areas, a café and a University of the Sunshine Coast satellite campus which will be offering courses for first year business programs and a masters program. In addition, the award winning Noosa Community Radio FM 101.3 will have a new home within the centre with a state-of-the-art studio.
Situated at the corner of Noosa Drive and Grant Street, Noosa Junction, 'The Junction' aka 'The J' was named to reflect it's location and to indicate a convergence of ideas and generations.
While Council will provide day-to-day management of the Centre, staff will work with an Advisory Committee comprised of 10 community members to ensure clear communication and exchange of ideas between Centre management and the community.
