The Merry Widow – one of the most popular operettas of all time – is the story of a rich widow (who, naturally, everyone wants to marry) – and a lady’s missing fan that carries an embarrassing message.
Set to the romantic music of Franz Lehar, the Maleny Singers, accompanied by the Maleny Performing Arts Orchestra, will showcase this glamorous production in the Maleny Community Centre at the end of July.
Produced and directed by Margaret Taylor, with Jenny Keys starring as the Widow, and Paul Richardson as her dashing reluctant suitor, the show is a tale of love and intrigue centred on the Pontevedrian Embassy in Paris, and contains a string of well-known musical numbers.
Over 40 members of the Singers will take to the stage to re-create the era of the 1920’s. Lavish costumes for the ladies and dashing white tie and tails for the men will see the Community Centre stage sparkle.
Choreographer Lisa Grigor of Maleny's bDifferent Dance Academy is directing the famous dance of the naughty Grisettes – the girls from Maxim’s night club – with her own pupils. Said Margaret Taylor: “Lisa and her girls are doing a fantastic job, bringing an element of ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the show! “
