RAGA DOLLS QUARTET - SKILLFULLY HANDCRAFTED CLASSIC
On Saturday September 06th at 8pm The J is hosting another night of amazing music. In cooperation with Red Chair, the company that brought you beautiful music by artists like StringmanSassy, The Saruzu Quartet or Jaleos Flamenco, The J presents: The Raga Doll Quartet.
Hailing from Melbourne, in September this esteemed quartet will be touring Northern NSW and SouthEast QLD for the first time. They are visiting the region to promote their newest recording "Late Harvest" for performances not to be missed. The Raga Dolls Quartet is led by violinist and composer - David Osborne and comprises Piano Accordion Virtuoso - George Butrumlis, Guitarist - Kieren Ray and Double Bass Player - Marion Heckenberg.
So far they have released two very popular CDs - 'Wordless Meanings' and 'Stray Dog Waltz and Other Stories' which received an almost unheard of five stars from Deborah Jones in the Weekend Australian: "The Melbourne-based band calls itself a salon ensemble, which conjures up images of red velvet, fringed lampshades and people with a past… the music lives up to the promise, having the fabulously languorous feel of a slightly louche tea room (with wicked cocktails to follow)… Exceptionally evocative…" The Weekend Australian
"A repertoire peculiarly suited to and evocative of long summer evenings; of surreptitious flirtations, clinking champagne flutes and tinkling laughter ... arranged with ingenuity and panache." Sydney Morning Herald"
The group's music is regularly broadcasted on ABC Classic FM and Radio National, they have performed live on Radio National's 'The Music Show', Evenings with Derek Guille on ABC local radio as well as TV Arts program 'Coast to Coast'.
Support: "The FireTree". Last year local band The Firetree performed at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots festival, where they took first place in the annual Buskers Competition and made their debut at the Woodford Folk Festival. The band has also won numerous Original Songwriting Competitions. Resonating original music, the Firetree sing socially conscious lyrics blending Pop, roots, reggae, rock and hip hop.
