Lake Kawana set to rock
The Lake Kawana Community Centre will rock to the sounds of some of the Coast's hottest musical talent as part of an innovative entertainment initiative for young people.
The Rock Show, to be held on March 15, is part of Caloundra City Council's YouthLinx Amped Sessions program and will feature local bands Silence is Deafening, Infelicity, Guilt's Only Solution, Dementia13 and Tempting Fate.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said The Rock Show will showcase local youth while providing quality entertainment for visitors and residents of all ages.
"The Rock Show is the result of a partnership between community organisations, young people and local performers whose goal is to establish an ongoing event to fill an entertainment void in our community," Cr Aldous said.
"This music event not only gives talented musicians a chance to showcase their abilities but also help young people gain experience in event management as well as nurture their communication, marketing and administration skills.
"Our community has some incredibly talented young people and this is an amazing opportunity for them to further their skills while also providing an affordable entertainment opportunity in a safe setting."
Amped Sessions program focuses on up-skilling young people and performers so they can safely run their own sustainable, alcohol and drug free, all-age youth events. The program is run by a committee brought together by Council's YouthLinx and Lifeline's Youth Development programs.
The Rock Show will be held at Lake Kawana Community Centre on Saturday March 17 from 1pm to 6pm.
It is a drug and alcohol free event for all ages. Entry is $5.
