What happens when a group of ambitious 40 somethings living on the same avenue get together to pool all their extra cash (what little there is of it) in the hope of making buckets of the stuff is nothing short of hilarious when  " The Share Club"  opens at Bats theatre towards the end of the month. The optimistic group do make profits but the miniscule amounts are usually only enough to cover the copious amounts of wine and nibblies that are consumed during the  very sociable meetings. The end result is more of a sharing of gossip, secrets and hidden desires rather than tips on blue chips, securities and all ordinaries.
An interesting blend of characters includes an underestimated and undervalued wife, (Deb mills) as well as an unfaithful wife who does whatever it takes to get what she wants, (Lisa Price). Comic man Dez Ginns has the lucky role of playing the sleazy bachelor who feels an overwhelming generosity to avail himself to all women, usually succeeding less than his share tips.
The partially serious group is kept somewhat focused by the  traditional school mistress type, ( Rita Walker) who occasionally resorts to commanding her friends to putting hands on heads in order to get their attention.
The cast is complete with comic favourites Dennis Coleman and Patrick Buicke as well as talented newcomers to Bats Daniel Schwarz and David Montgomery.
"The Share Club" is a wonderful play by the very famous New Zealand play write Roger Hall. Due to his international acclaim and the overwhelming response from local New Zealanders keen to see the show, director Margaret Sadler Watson has chosen to stay true to the setting intended and the very Okka Sunshine Coast cast members 'hev hed  to put on their kiwi eccents'.
With more of a focus on sharing their love, lust and lives and  a surprising twist at the end audiences will be delighted by this highly entertaining show.
