Tibet and Buddhist Art Expert Visits Noosa

Travellers contemplating a visit to the Roof of the World may be interested to know that international Buddhist art expert Zara Fleming will be visiting Noosa as a guest lecturer of the Noosa branch of the Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies when she will give an overview of Tibetan history from the time of the great Tibetan Empire (6th to 9th centuries) up to the present day.  During her talk she will explore the fascinating art and culture in Tibet inspired by Buddhism, introduced from India in the 7th century, and will give an insight into the country’s politics.

An independent art consultant, researcher, cataloguer and exhibition curator, Ms Fleming first visited Nepal in 1973 and Bhutan in 1976.  She has a distinguished career in her field.  Initially based at the Victoria & Albert Museum with general responsibility for the Tibetan and Nepalese collections, she has been Assistant Director in Europe for the Orient Foundation and was affiliated with the Centre for Cultural Heritage in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia.

Much in demand, Ms Fleming gives presentations for museums, universities, Asian art societies, private associations and charitable institutions.  She has been the guest lecturer on numerous trips to the Buddhist areas of the Himalayas: Tibet, Bhutan, Ladakh, Sikkim, and Nepal.

Those attending her talk on Saturday 19 July will have the chance of speaking to Ms Fleming when refreshments are served after her lecture.  Visitors are welcome but must book with ADFAS Noosa prior to the lecture.
