What inspires a great author?
What inspires a great author? For more than 40 years Tom Keneally has been one of Australia’s best loved writers of fiction and non fiction.
His latest work Three Famines – an account of three appalling mass starvations in Ireland, Bengal and Ethiopia-- is yet another triumph of his non-fiction works which include the memoir Searching for Schindler, The Commonwealth of Thieves and American Scoundrel.
The titles of his 28 works of fiction are household words – The Widow and Her Hero (shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Award), The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith, Gossip from the Forest and The Confederates, all three of which were shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
He won the Booker in 1982 with Schindler’s List and two books Bring Larks and Heroes and Three Cheers for the Paraclete won the Miles Franklin Award.
Tom will be introduced by Ita Buttrose and in this absorbing session expect Tom to tell about his source of inspiration and why his more recent books like Three Famines reflect a wider range of interests which deal with subjects not confined to Australia.
