Dutch Auction of Seascapes by Lee Harrison at
Madissons Restaurant, 271 Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, at 5.30pm on
Thursday, 10 September 2009
My exhibition of seascapes and landscapes entitled "Tranquillity" will be a fundraiser and will feature many different paintings not seen before in my previous art shows.
Part of the proceeds will assist "Katie Rose Cottage" (Sunshine Coast Community Hospice) due to open in Doonan in January. We are very blessed to have this wonderful facility in our area. After all, we never know when we may be in need of their services, and I'm sure it will be peace of mind for us all just knowing these caring people are there.
The "Dutch Auction" will be conducted by Laraine Boxshall, aided by Jan Kibble-Wright. We hope to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause so do come along & join us. It promises to be heaps of fun with some great bargains to be had.
Please RSVP as soon as possible so that we can give the restaurant an idea of numbers for catering purposes. Madissons have very kindly offered to provide drinks at reduced prices between 4pm & 6pm on the night and simple finger food will be served.
Hoping to see you there!

Exhibition Rationale by Lee Harrison
The different moods of the beach evoke special feelings, from the iridescent sparkle on the aqua-blue water on a bright sunny day, to the sombre deep grey/greens and ochres on a dull day, and I endeavour to capture these different images in my paintings.
I am always fascinated by the tidal patterns and designs, seemingly carved into the wet sand on the water's edge, adding a particularly artistic dimension to the scene, along with the wonderful pinkish tones at dusk, which feature in my artwork.
High tides mark significant changes to the beach, and sculpt a new course to the dunes each time, causing severe erosion and often creating high cliffs now bereft of silvery-green vegetation. It is this fascination with the forces of nature that I find compelled to paint.
The ever-changing afternoon shadows of purples, pinks, and blue-greys are especially exciting to me and inspire many of my dune paintings.
During my daily beach therapy walks I find I am consciously making a mental note of pleasing contours, lines and colours. This, together with the reflections on the Noosa River, observed during river walks, is why my paintings depict beach and river scenes, thus attesting to my affinity with sand and water and the general Noosa ambience.
