As part of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's TreeLine initiative, Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre will host a free two hour workshop for children called 'Trees of Tribute' on Friday 9 April from 10am until 12 noon.

Manager of Discover Eumundi Wendy Birrell says the TreeLine Trees of Tribute workshop is open to children aged seven years and upwards.

"It will be a great opportunity for children to learn more about Eumundi's special memorial trees planted in memory of those Eumundi men who died in WW1," says Wendy.

"Eighty-seven men from Eumundi and the surrounding district served in the First World War and the trees were planted in 1918 to honour the twenty men who did not return."

Wendy explains that Eumundi is one of the few towns in Queensland which does not display a monumental type memorial to the First World War.

"Memorial drives of trees are relatively uncommon in Queensland, particularly those in which each tree is representative of a specific fallen serviceman," Wendy says.

"During the workshop, our young participants will create drawings relating to the trees and Anzac Day. These will be laminated and put on the top of the railings that run along side our biggest trees in Memorial Drive when the road is closed for the Anzac Day March on Sunday 25 April," she says.

Bookings for the workshop are essential, and can be made by phoning Discover Eumundi on 5442 8762.
