Love frogs? Want to see and hear more of them in your garden? Then come
along to the Veggie Village Frog Pond Building Workshop on Sunday April
26th at 9-11 am. Fee is $15 for non-members $10 for members.
Veggie Village promotes sustainability and community participation through growing organic fruit and vegetables at Di Hurst Oval, Rufous St, Peregian Beach.
The workshop will be conducted by landscaper and horticulturalist Sean Morrow who has built frog ponds in many different coastal settings. Workshop topics include: Why and how to create frog habitat; Cane toad proofing; Raising tadpoles, and Frog care. Practical hands on experience is gained by helping build a frog pond in Veggie Village's spring fed stream.
Sean says there are many reasons to give frogs a home in your garden besides the sheer pleasure of their moist and froggy company.
"Wetlands are under threat world wide, and many frog habitats have also been lost on the coast through development - so creating a frog haven in your yard helps maintain our marvellous biodiversity.
"Frogs are also great organic pest control -- they will eat many insect bugs in your veggie garden. And kids love frogs -- a frog pond is a great way for them to connect with nature," said Sean.
