VIRIDIAN VERTICAL - TAKING ENVIRONMENTAL STEPS
Now in its third year the Viridian Vertical event has developed to a stage that it will now be held as a stand alone event to help raise community awareness about the environment and the positive ways we can have an impact and help make a difference. The Viridian Vertical will be held on Friday 1 August, 2008.
The stairs at Viridian Noosa which link Hastings Street to Noosa Lookout forms part of the course for the Viridian Vertical. It is a challenging 3km course for participants who can make their way to the top of the stairs at their own pace, take time to enjoy the magnificent view, grab a drink at the Lookout (1.5km) then continue on the walk along Viewlands Drive right into Attunga Heights, down the steps behind Picture Point and finishing back at Viridian.
Event sponsor and Viridian Noosa developer, Bob Borger said the Viridian Vertical was a unique event and encouraged the community to come on site and view the race and take in the environment we are creating with the Viridian project. We've nurtured the trees and planted many thousands more that will ensure that beauty of Noosa Hill is preserved forever providing habitat for Noosa's fauna.
By taking part in the 3km walk for fun, fitness and future you will be helping to raise funds for the Cindy Mackenzie Breast Cancer Foundation. The funds raised will be used on the Coast to ease the hardship, help families and make a difference. USM EVENTS is donating $5 from every entry and also encouraging everyone to give generously.
In keeping with our environment awareness theme each participant will receive a free tree, generously purchased by Viridian. Noosa's local Landcare group will be on hand to assist with this. Each year land carers plant many millions of native trees, shrubs and grasses for a range of benefits, including better soils, water and air quality. They restore bushland and conserve sensitive areas.
Participants will receive their free tree upon finishing, to take home and plant or seek advise from Landcare who will be on site to advise of the best options including the next Bushland Care Group day they could attend to plant them.
Local school children are also encouraged to get involved to help spread the word about the environment and encouraged to dress in their best green theme, with prizes awarded to all groups of ten or more.
Also lending their support will be Noosa Smart Travel by providing alternate suggestions on travelling to the event.
Noosa is a community that embraces alternative travel choices. Strategies have been developed that offer transport options; no longer having to rely solely on the motor car. Walking, Cycling, Scooters and Public Transport are all encouraged.
So put the car away and enjoy the journey.
It's time to step up and get behind this great community event.
