The Woodford Folk Festival is an event of international standing. Held over six days and six nights it presents more than 2000 performers and 400 events with concerts, dances, workshops, forums, street theatre, writers' panels, film festival, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, social dialogue and debate, an entire children's festival, art and craft workshops, late night cabarets and special events including a spectacular fire event. The Festival features the cream of Australian performers and a generous gathering of special international guests.

With smoke, mirrors, bubbles and fire the festival streets come alive in breathing, seething mass of energy, colour and sound. From the ridiculous to the preposterous, let jugglers, twirlers, clowns, acrobats and puppets introduce you to a carnival world of possibilities.

Experience the mystery and grace of the ancient and evolving performing arts, in celebration of the many cultures we create and share. Featuring vibrant cultural music, dance, poetry and theatre traditions at the root of contemporary Australian society.

The full regalia of circus, vaudeville, cabaret, burlesque, travelling show, human absurdities, sideshow, curiosities and physicalities, ballyhoo, and diverse amusements in a glittering spectacles for your delectation.

fire event
A spectacular finale to the festival, this closing ceremony uses tales, imagery, music, and ceremony to venerate this wonderful planet.

For eighteen years, the Festival has proudly presented the diverse culture, lore knowledge and the arts of Indigenous Australians. The tradition continues with an outstanding programme of dance, film, workshops, talks, traditional and contemporary performance that highlights the diversity of our ever-adapting oldest culture.

Is the Pen Mightier than the Word? Razor wits confirm that comedy is a serious business nightly in the Club, while sharp-shooting performance poets, hiphop, stand-up, jazz, jive and workshops have their way with words daily in the Lyceum.

Rediscover a magical world of strings, rods, hands, shadows and inanimate objects through traditional Punch and Judy stories, outdoor family shows produced from a Gypsy Caravan, adult marionettes, travelling booth shows and gentle giants.

Roll out the red carpet for your snapshot of challenging, inspiring and entertaining celluloid from around the globe. As the sun goes down the searchlights come up on documentary, short film, International and Aussie animation, video clips and the 8th Annual Short Film Comp.

Trip the light fantastic with irresistible hypnotic rhythms, graceful steps, fast-paced footwork and exotic dance styles in variety of workshops, dance events, balls and parties. Enjoy cultural immersion in ritual and traditional dances or the fun of social dancing to hot live dance bands every evening.

Colossal doses of spine-tingling performance, copious quantities of spontaneity, bucket-loads of hands-on workshops, lashings of circus magic and sprinklings of dance, drama, yoga, storytelling and puppetry are all lurking behind the gates, just waiting to be discovered.

ideas and issues
Greenhouse and Radiance discussions span a diverse range of issues include sustainability, nutrition, renewable energy, biology, consumption and mind/body health. Join us to signify perhaps the most sustainable choice of all: a commitment to continued debate and action.

new year's revolution
Out with the Old in a New Year's Eve experience unique to the Amphitheatre! New Year's Revolution is a 4-hour high-powered celebration of roots, reggae, afro-beat, percussion, hiphop, soul, Latin, traditional and contemporary music and dance dedicated to peace and a positive movement into 2006.

Experiment, provoke, imagine, surprise, aspire and explore your creative side in paper, fibre, glass, clay, wax, mosaic, costume, pain, muds, ochre and spices at the visual arts festival.
