Old or young, there's one classic gift that never goes out of fashion, never goes flat and you can take it anywhere—a great book.

This Christmas, no matter who you're buying for, head to council's library website for 'must read' guides, to make choosing perfectly a snap.

You'll find new releases and reviews, links to sites that tell you what books you'll enjoy based on others you like, children's reading lists, teen reading and for under-fives, the first5forever website provides 'must read' lists, as well as great pre-school activities.

Council's Young Peoples Services Supervisor Karen Gawen said council libraries really were the go to place this Christmas holidays.

"The days of silently turning pages and ssshing librarians are long gone—silent children don't exist! Each of our libraries feature a dedicated bright and colourful area, where children are encouraged to have fun and explore," Ms Gawen said.

"In air conditioned comfort you can borrow toys and games from the toy library (2 per membership), join in one of the free activities for under-fives including create stations, a puppet show in January, Fuzzy Furry friends, activity days every Monday and of course choose from thousands of books.

"And Pre-schoolers, primary and secondary age kids can get their game on at the summer reading club. Simply read and log books for a chance to win some great prizes such as lego or a toy store voucher.

"Children just need to read five items of their choice over the summer holidays – this includes books, magazines, comics and eBooks, complete the reading log and hand it in to their local Sunshine Coast library by 5pm Monday, January 15, 2018 – it's that easy!

"We also have a massive collection of e-games, e-books, e-magazines and audio books, so if you're heading on holiday, load up your phone,  e-reader or mp3 player for those long car trips and keep everyone entertained for free. Simply browse and download from the comfort of home.

"Christmas is certainly dino saur-ted with the first Story seat, featuring the classic rhyming book all about a naughty little dinosaur who loves to get dirty....I'm a dirty dinosaur, with a dirty snout, I never wipe it clean I just sniff and snuff about!  ... More story seats will be in place from mid-January to take the family on a bookventure across the Sunshine Coast."
