Police have charged a man after he allegedly broke into a Palmwoods store overnight and staff heard him trying to break into a safe.

It will be alleged the man broke into the Main Street business early this morning and was using a grinder in an attempt to gain access to a safe.

A staff member attending to commence work shortly before 5am heard the grinder and contacted police. Police attended and surrounded the building. The man was arrested as he exited the building.

It will be further alleged he broke into the same business on December 15.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence and one count each of possession of dangerous drug and utensil. He is expected to appear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 18.
