You are a powerful voice for our marine wildlife and our amazing oceans.

But alarmingly for our Australian way of life, your voice is at risk of being silenced. The ability of charities to speak up for millions of concerned Australians and deliver essential support is under threat.

This week, the Turnbull Government will introduce legislation seeking to ban charities from speaking up in defence of our marine wildlife if they receive international philanthropic support.

Hands Off Our Charities

What’s at stake if this ban is successful?

Our ability to fight for our vulnerable Great Barrier Reef.

❌Our shared efforts to save our sanctuaries.

❌Our ability to stand against dangerous fishing practices.

❌Our advocacy to end illegal whaling in our waters.

But a ban wouldn’t stop with our forests, coasts and seas. The laws would affect all charities, impacting vital funds for life-saving medical research, access to education, poverty alleviation and those advocating for the rights of Indigenous Australians.

Sign the petition today saying ‘Hands off our charities!’ Stop this ban in its tracks.

We must unite together against this attack. We must call for common sense to prevail.

Restricting advocacy by charities sends a deeply troubling message – that our governments should not be held accountable. It would have a chilling effect on our democracy.

That’s why Australian charities are standing together. Charities are at the heart of Australia’s identity. We stand for a fair go, not just for Australians, but for our wildlife and our planet - who cannot speak for themselves.

We have just days to speak up. Please sign the petition and tell your local MP to stand up for our charities.

Thank you for all you do.

P.S. We cannot allow a future in which charities are restricted from speaking up for the voiceless. We cannot allow them to silence our voices. Tell the Government “Hands off our charities!”
