The 1956 Olympic Torch visit to Eumundi, the 1969 Caloundra Nippers team and people climbing Mt Tibrogargan are just some of the iconic images making an appearance in the Playtime: celebrating leisure, sport and recreation 2018 cultural heritage calendar.

It was officially unveiled by Mayor Mark Jamieson at Twin Waters Golf Club today (October 27).

Mayor Jamieson said the 2018 heritage calendar celebrated the relaxed lifestyle that has been enjoyed by Sunshine Coast locals and visitors for decades.

“The calendar is sure to be a precious keepsake as it captures the essence of life here on our Sunshine Coast and our love of the great outdoors,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“From the 1930s to the 1980s, the calendar takes us on a wonderful journey through the past including the Miss Maroochy boat taking passengers on a cruise along Maroochy River and the 1966 Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club boat crew.

“This year, it showcases photos drawn from the private collections of five locals - winners of the heritage calendar photo competition - and council’s own Picture Sunshine Coast collection, which can be accessed by the community via our libraries.

“I would like to thank the competition winners - Dorothy Robinson-McKay, Dale Alsop, Janet Gresham, Blair McNamara and Geoffrey Glanville - for sharing their great photos for all the community to enjoy.”

Copies of the Playtime: celebrating leisure, sport and recreation 2018 cultural heritage calendar will be available for purchase from council’s library branches and Customer Service Centres for only $6.

The annual Sunshine Coast Council Heritage Calendar is produced to celebrate and showcase the unique cultural heritage of our region.

It is proudly supported by council’s Cultural Heritage Levy.
