2010 One-Act Play Festival
There is something adventurous in going to see three new one act plays in one night. It's an adventure that audiences to the Noosa Arts One Act Play Festival have been enjoying for over thirty years. And what a bumper year 2010 will be for audiences.
God Willing, written by Bruce Olive from Buderim, is a chilling drama inspired by the terrorist attack on the Mumbai hotel. It looks at the nature of modern terrorism, and why some people are so desperate that they will sacrifice their own lives in order to satisfy their goals.
The Usual Five for Lunch, written by a School teacher from NSW, Paul Addison, is a comedy, set in the lounge bar of a run down country town pub, which explores the tangled relationships of 3 generations of women who have more in common than they realise.
Tudo Ou Nada is a very funny comedy by local Frank Wilkie. Ingrained prejudices, family secrets and damaging indiscretions are exposed when two lovers from vastly different cultural backgrounds bring their dysfunctional parents together for the first time and explain their decision to defy custom and remain unmarried.
Three very experienced and talented Directors, Sue Clapham, Jenni McCaul and Sue Sewell combine with exceptional actors, including Jodie Bushby, the winner of the Best Actress Award last year, to make this a night of fabulous theatre.
Audiences can also enjoy the wonderful tradition of voting for their favourite play which wins the Nancy Cato Award and is published by Maverick Musicals.
The winner of the Best Play will receive $2500 prize money for Best Play, sponsored by Macquarie.
This winner of the Best Play and the Audience Choice winner will be announced following the final performance on Saturday June 12 and will be showcased at the Noosa Long Weekend.
For over thirty years, Noosa Council and more recently, the Sunshine Coast Council have supported this event. Noosa Arts Theatre is very grateful to the Sunshine Coast Council for their grant of $2500 to assist with the costs of the One Act Play Festival in 2010.
