Adriana Adamska-Bland, Sunshine Coast Regional Council Candidate for Division 8

vote 1 Adriana (6)

My name is Adriana Adamska-Bland and I'm running for Council in the next election. I am contesting Division 8 – the area where I live, work and raise my family.

Like so many proud Australians, I came to this country – and to the Sunshine Coast – from elsewhere. I was born and educated in Poland, my working life took me first to England, before I settled in Australia more than a decade ago.

My Aussie husband's retirement from service in the Australian Army was a key factor in this move, as was the desire to raise our family of two boys, aged three and ten, in the vibrant lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast.

I hold a Bachelor of Engineering with honours in Computer Science gained from the Technical University of Lodz in 2002. I am currently studying a Masters in Public Relations at the University of Southern Queensland, and I have worked for the last eight years, first as Operations Manager, and now a Project Manager, in the Australian IT industry.

This hands-on experience in both policy and product direction and coordination, as well as people management, will all enable me to offer a distinctive, independent and truly local, voice in the council chamber.

What can I bring to the Sunshine Coast Council?

Apart from a much-needed female voice, I will also bring my passionate commitment for the Sunshine Coast, its people and way of life.

'It's vital that local people have their say, and have a sense of ownership of decisions made in their name.'

I also believe that the Sunshine Coast must not simply become another version of the Gold Coast, but that all development must be to the benefit of the entire local community: 'Development decisions must be about improving people's lives, not simply approving plans for building projects or estates'.

If elected, I will also focus on:
·       promoting child health, safety and development through community initiatives
·       increased transparency about how the funds collected through rates are actually used
·       ensuring environmental sustainability, both through management of waste and the use of innovative technology
·       promotion of local businesses through the building of leveraged partnerships

Throughout my candidacy for Division 8, I will also be emphasising the importance of each vote and will encourage everyone to enrol and then help make key decision about the future direction and style of the Sunshine Coast's Council. I believe a great potential is still waiting to be truly unlocked for the area.

The reason I am asking for your support is because I have always known that with privilege comes responsibility. I have been given the great privilege of living in this community and that is why I feel I must give back to the community and serve you the local people with my determination to get things done, my enthusiasm, my hard work and my passion.

Through the leadership of our local government I believe that in partnership with its citizens, local businesses, community organisations, and other units of government, our community will be the best place in which to live, visit, work, and raise a family. Together we can make this wonderful place even better.
