Rachel Radic - Animal Justice for Nicklin

"My goal is to empower others to live with compassion and to act with kindness for all living beings. I think that our government is failing to protect animals — the most vulnerable amongst us — and our natural environment. The tall trees and bushland around Nambour is one of the many reasons I love Nicklin and it's time that we did something to protect them before it's too late.

I am the founder of Sunshine Coast Vegan Activists, which is a group of animal activists campaigning for equal rights for all. This year I have run letter-writing workshops teaching others how to engage with their local representatives while advocating for a ban on greyhound racing. We also do a lot of educational events like market stalls, leafleting and demonstrations about the impacts our "personal choices" have on the lives of animals, human health and the environment. As strongly as I believe in and value animal rights activism on a ground level I know the only way we can obtain real laws and rights for all living beings is by having them represented in parliament. It's up to our politicians to lead the way for a compassionate and cruelty free way of life. And I believe this is absolutely achievable which is why I'm up for the challenge! I will act as your local representative by listening to my constituents and following the Animal Justice Party core principles: kindness, equality, rationality and non-violence.

I work as a Special Education Teacher and am a big advocate for equality in society and equality before the law. We need to do more to protect the vulnerable in the community; humans and animals. All children deserve to grow up with the same fair go in life. For this reason I would like to see more resources for those with special needs. I will also continue to campaign for more resources to protect our animal companions from harm and neglect.

One of the first things I will do in Parliament is to work to end the worst treatment of animals. Circuses, racing and rodeos have no place in a compassionate and kind Queensland. I will also work to tax animal exploitation and subsidise vegan and cruelty-free businesses to lead the kindness revolution."
