Steve Dickson, Queensland Leader of One Nation

Steve Dickson was born at Mt Morgan in June 1962. He experienced first-hand the effects of drought when his family was forced off the land while he was still a child.

Educated in Brisbane, Steve worked in various fields before becoming a small business owner in the 1980s. He owned and operated various businesses in Brisbane and the SunshineCoast hinterland.

Steve then moved to Buderim and started his political career when elected as division 8 councillor for Maroochy Shire in 2000. His council roles included: Chair of Town Planning, member of the Sunshine Coast Caravan Park Advisory Board and board member of Aquagen, the Caloundra/Maroochy water authority.

In September 2006, Steve successfully entered state politics as the Liberal Member for Kawana, defeating a sitting Labor minister.

On election, he was appointed Deputy Opposition Whip. Following the merger of the Queensland Liberal and National Parties to form the LNP in July 2008, Steve became Shadow Minister for Workplace and Job Security (including Employment and Industrial Relations).

Due to an electorate boundary redistribution, Steve ran as the LNP candidate for Buderim and was elected the inaugural State Member for Buderim in March 2009.

Steve has served as a member of the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Commission committee and the parliamentary Industry, Education, Training and Industrial Relations Committee.

In April 2011, as part of his restructured CanDo team, Leader of the LNP Campbell Newman appointed Steve Shadow Minister for Energy and Water Utilities.

As a result of the 2012 State Election, Steve was re-elected as the State Member for Buderim and was sworn in as the Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport & Racing.

After the 2015 State Election, Steve was again re-elected at the State Member for Buderim. Between 27 Mar 2015 - 18 Feb 2016 he served on the Health and Ambulance Services Committee before serving on the Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee from 18 Feb 2016 to present. During this term, Steve has become a tireless advocate for the legalisation of medicinal cannabis to treat chronic illnesses. Recently, the State and Federal Parliaments passed historic legislation establishing frameworks for the introduction of medicinal cannabis.

On 13 January 2017, Steve resigned his membership to the Liberal National Party and joined Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party. He currently sits in the Queensland Parliament for Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party.

Steve’s family has a long history of political involvement. His grandfather and father were both councillors, with his grandfather serving for 32 years. Steve is proud that his son Christian was elected in October 2006, to fill the position of councillor vacated by Steve. Christian is currently serving as a Sunshine Coast Regional councillor.

Steve is happily married to Debbie and they have two adult sons, Christian and Zeik.
