Gympie / Mary Valley

In 1867 the discovery of gold by prospector James Nash, at the site now that hold the Town Hall, is how Gympie got the name "Town that Saved Queensland".  At the time, Queensland was facing bankruptcy due to drought and the fall in wool prices.

The Gympie region extends from Imbil, North to Glenwood and borders from Wolvi to Goomeri.
Perfectly situated in Queensland's south east it  is a wonderful blend of  waterways, rural hinterland, and heritage which offers several unique holiday destinations within one region.

The Gympie regional  is located approximately 160 kilometres north of Brisbane situated along the Bruce Highway on the Fraser Coast. Gympie offers a unique experience with warm hospitality of a country town with all the modern conveniences and stores.

Many great towns nestled within the Gympie region, which offers visitors an exciting adventure of natural and heritage attractions, a wide range of outdoor activities and tours. Visit museums in Gympie and Kilkivan. Take a leisurely ride on Gympie's historic 'Valley Rattler' steam train.
